We are space starved model railroaders who live in New York City. We are starting this group as a way of building community. Over the years we have tried as individuals to find others in the hobby whether it be by trying to find clubs, found another NYC person online in a social media chat or just finding another modeler at the magazine rack at Barnes and Nobel or some such.

Manhattan Modelers was founded in 2023 by a group of model railroaders. Our hope is that by starting a social group we can find others who live near us who are dealing with similar space issues. Personally, I would be very interested in seeing what others in my limited space situation are doing with their model railroading.

Our goal is to setup the Manhattan Modelers as a Special Interest Group under the umbrella of the NMRA.

We have setup a Manhattan Modelers Discord as a place to share projects & ideas, post events, ask and answer questions and make connections.

We have chosen Discord because it is organized around specific interests instead of providing a unified newsfeed. Discord is focused on real-time interactions between people, whereas other social media options function as internet message boards.

Discord also has a Zoom like video conferencing feature, but without the limits of the free Zoom.
